Poway High Student To Vaus: Espola Rd. Is Dangerous, Please Fix It

10/14/2021

The Honorable Mayor Vaus
City Government Office
Poway, CA 92064

Dear Mr. Vaus:

My name is Brandon Armas, a senior, currently attending Poway High School, and in this letter I wanted to discuss an issue regarding Espola Road intersecting Twin Peaks Road. Everyday I drive to school from Silverset and there is always heavy traffic or possible accidents at the intersection. It is very dangerous how there are two lanes merging to one as soon as the drivers turn left onto Espola headed towards the school. In my sophomore year, it looked like the road was attempted to widen, but that project ended and I assume it was due to the properties of those who owned it.

According to media reports, “for 25 years studies of what to do about the road have been conducted and talked about, but now a firm plan has been created that will widen the road from two to three lanes, create much-needed sidewalks and bike lanes, and improve drainage.”

If the topic of this road has been in process then, why has it been even longer than 25 years to continue the project?

Work is supposed to be completed by February, but according to a story in the San Diego Union-Tribune, it might take longer.

“The work on the pathway is scheduled to go out for bid in March, '' Trang said. Pathway construction cannot begin until all the utility poles are down.

What are your thoughts on this project and do you think that it will be finished by then? Once this project is completed it would be beneficial for those headed to high school in the future.

My experience living in this area is remarkable because it’s a beautiful area, the community is friendly, and everything is nearby. Poway tends to have a lot of pros than cons due to how safe the city is for the community. I would love to hear your input about Espola Road being improved. Have a good day!

Sincerely,

Brandon Armas

Senior at Poway High School
